music thoughts?

Music has been part of my culture since I can remember. The influence in my taste of music created by my social environment started during my childhood and from there it followed a pattern. During my childhood, I was influenced to like music my kindergarten and elementary school enforced. As I grew older, lets say, during my pre-teen years, I was more aware of my surroundings and music around me. I wanted to be just like my mother, dance to the songs she would dance to, and sing along to songs with her. Then as I realized that the songs she liked, my generation would despise, I started to get embarrassed and pretend to like the songs they would listen to. And so it began, I became a shadow of what people liked. It wasn’t until high school when I understood that it was “okay” to like different music than what my generation preferred.
I thought I was myself when I came to college for the first time, but what I realized after my parents visited me, after two months of being here, was that when I was with them I would listen to slow songs, more like oldies but when I got here I expanded my library to more up-beat rhythms. So if you were to ask me to let you borrow my iPod, you would find a great variety on genres and artists due to the fact that I like to please everyone and “want to fit in” with the crowd.
