I volunteered at the Animals of the Night event, sponsored by PCEI on October 25th, 2013. I submitted my application online, and was asked to wear a spider costume, which would help other people notice me and ask me for any questions. At the end, I did not wear the costume, because I was asked to help in the food stand. I cut oranges; I washed and dry dishes; I made sure there were enough cups right next to the hot chocolate stand and also made sure there was enough light for attendees to see; I also made sure there was enough food for people to eat. I personally think my service time was not as benefiting as the program as a whole. Just standing there, being able to provide food and support to the people who attended the event was benefitting to both, the attendees and me, because I would get to know them and also they would eat and be happy. It also brought them all close together, regardless of the food or the weather.
I also made it possible for the people who were in charge of everything to make sure everything was going good. I took some work off their backs.
