Junior Miss 2012 was also an unforgettable experience
because just like VOICE, it helped me figure out whom I was, where I was
standing, and to also care about myself. I had never participated in a contest
like that before and I believed I had no talent or the capacity to be part of
such a big event. Many times I thought of giving up. I kept thinking that I was
not cut to do this. I thought I did not stand a chance against the other competitors.
I was so caught in the storm that I forgot how to have fun, how to enjoy it and
how to create memories out of it. However, I was willing to change, to make a
stand for myself and to prove others that I was capable of doing it. I don’t
know how, but at the end, I learned how to dance under the rain, I might have
not won an award or a paper with a title, but I did win a prize that night: confidence.
I had proven to myself that I was capable of doing it and it was only the
beginning of great opportunities that were soon to come. Something I have learned
throughout the years is that it is not about whether you want to keep going or
not, it’s about believing in yourself and knowing that you can accomplish great
things if you try.
